Practical Information

Conference Format

The conference will be held in a fully digital format. We will be using Zoom for the actual sessions and SpatialChat for special events and more informal gatherings.

The CfP can be found here.

Session Streams

All GEOMEDIA 2021 conference sessions will take place on Zoom, with three streams throughout the conference. Zoom Stream 1 and Zoom Stream 2 will be used for the majority of the main conference with Zoom Stream 3 reserved for the parallel Locating Media track, celebrating the Locating Media graduate school hosted at the University of Siegen (except ‘A City is not a Grid?!’ which will take place on Zoom Stream 3 on Wednesday afternoon).

All Zoom links will be made available to conference participants and attendees through ConfTool. Due to reasons of safety and data privacy, please do not circulate the Zoom links outside of the conference. For those wishing to attend the conference, please register here. Attendees must be registered in advance of the deadline on Wednesday April 28 in order to receive the links.

In addition, some sessions will also be recorded as a documentation of the conference. These will include the keynotes and a number of others, including the ‘Geomedia Methods’ plenary panel. It will be made aware to attendees within the sessions which are being recorded. No individual paper thematic panels will be recorded.

Social Events

We have a number of social events planned in addition to the daily conference programme. Taking place after the keynotes (6-7.30pm), the evening events will be on SpatialChat, the ‘virtual venue’ for all our social events (as well as all coffee and lunch breaks) throughout the conference. To enter our special GEOMEDIA 2021 SpatialChat venue just follow the link (tbc) within ConfTool. Only registered participants can attend the social events (see Session Streams for registration details). We will use the same venue for all events below.

Wednesday evening (8pm – late) will be an informal get-together for all conference attendees. Feel free to drop in, hang out, have a drink, and chat with fellow attendees.

Thursday evening (8pm – 10.30pm) will be a Screening of “The Price of Paradise” via Vimeo, followed by a discussion with the director Bettina Borgfeld via Zoom.

Friday evening (8pm – late) will be a virtual ‘party’ with music, videos and more as hosted by the GEOMEDIA 2021 organizers.

Technical Information

Speakers should arrive 15 minutes early to their respective panels. Conference assistants will be present in the Zoom rooms to give you screen sharing rights and help you with technical issues. Conference participants are invited to test any features (screen-sharing, sound, microphone quality etc.) within this period, with assistants on hand to help.

For panels that have been assembled from individual contributions, we kindly ask the panelists to self-organize and chose a moderator/chair from the group of speakers.

Support Channels

For any other questions or concerns beyond technical support, please email the GEOMEDIA 2021 organizers at info@geomediastudies.com. The organizers will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.
